Looking To Store A Recreational Vehicle Or Toy? Factors To Consider When Looking For A Self-Storage Facility

Posted on

Many people do not have the garage or storage space to store items such as boats, RVs, dirt bikes, quads, and other recreational toys and vehicles when they are not in use. If you are one of these people, you may be considering renting a space from a self-storage facility. If you have never rented a spot from a self-storage facility, you may be wondering what factors you need to consider to help you find the best storage units for your recreational items. Here are a few of those factors.

If the Space is Enclosed

One of the first factors you should consider is what options a self-storage facility offers in regards to covered or enclosed spaces. Some facilities offer enclosed spaces, others offer covered spaces and some offer open spaces. Open spaces tend to be cheaper than covered or enclosed spaces. However, these spaces leave your vehicle or toy exposed to various elements, such as hail, snow, and temperature extremes. If you live in an area with bad weather, looking for a covered or enclosed space may be beneficial for you.

The Size of the Spot

Another key factor to consider as you are looking for a space for a recreational vehicle or toy at a self-storage facility is the size of the spot. Many people consider the depth of the spot. But this is not the only factor to consider. You need to consider the height and the width of the space as well. When measuring the item that will be placed in the spot, be sure to measure items such as side mirrors, tow bars, and other add-on items that can affect the height, width, and length of the vehicle.

Facility Security Features

The last factor you need to consider when you are deciding which self-storage facility to store your recreational vehicle or toy at is what security features the facility uses to keep your item safe. Many self-storage facilities use a variety of different security features which may include cameras, locking sliding gates, security guards, and barbed wire around the top of the fencing around the facility. Always ask what security features a facility uses and look for the one that can best protect your belongings.

Recreational vehicles and toys take up space that you may not have. But fortunately, there is a place you can safely store your vehicle or toy when it is not in use. Paying close attention to the security features offered at various facilities, the size of the spots they offer, and whether their spaces are enclosed, covered, or open will help you to find the best self-storage facility for your recreational vehicles or toys.
